Hibs players clap the fans after suffering another defeat.

Marink Reedijk was very excited for this game at Easter Road this afternoon, his first time managing at the stadium. Hibs fans desperate to get some points on the board, they were looking forward to seeing this new style of Hibs. Falkirk arrived at Easter Road looking to get their second victory of the campaign.

Mayor, Boyle and Abdulai came into the starting 11 following last weeks defeat at Tannadice Park with Iredale and Suto dropping to the bench. Callum Wright picked up an injury in training this week, which is why he was left out of the squad.

Falkirk made one change following their defeat last week, also in the city of Dundee. That change was Tanser coming in for McCan.

A terrible touch from Abdulai in the 14th minute resulted in the ball being picked up in the middle of the pitch by Strain who played a great ball through for Murrel who ran on to it before rifling the ball from just inside the box, into the net.

Hibs were really struggling when they got to the halfway line, they couldn’t seem to work a way forward, always going back.

Hibs mucking about at the back led to Klidje’s back heel being lost to Ross at the corner flag who played a ball into the box where Mullen was first to react, a great touch and even better finish near post from a tight angle put the visitors 1-0 up.

Hibs fans were not happy at all with this performance, with boos becoming a regular sound throughout the first half.

Hibs did find a way back into the game when a ball was played across to Passlack, who drove forward before his cross into the box found Elding who put his whole body into the ball, resulting in it ending up in the corner of the net in the 41st minute.

Minutes later, Falkirk’s corner was headed on which Sallinger managed to keep out before it was tapped in by Barbrook. He was clearly in an offside position, so no goal was given.

Clapping with a mix of boos occurred at halftime.

Klidje received the ball from Mayor with his back to the defender, he then spun his man but was tripped in the process resulting in a penalty being awarded. After a lengthy VAR check the penalty was disallowed as the foul occurred outside the box, a free kick was given instead.

On the 60-minute mark Abdulai came off for McGrath, with Klidje coming off for new signing and home debutant, Matondo.

There were changes for both teams in the 77th minute. Falkirk brought Fodrey on for Ross whilst Hibs brought Cadden and Suto on for Chaiwa and Mayor.

Hibs were a lot more aggressive throughout the second half, McGrath coming the closest drawing a great near post save from Bain.

The Leith team were getting in good positions and creating some good chances but couldn’t convert any.

Falkirk dropped deeper in the second half trying to maintain their lead, they did come close however to extending their lead when a badly struck shot trickled away from goal; which actually allowed Eames to run on to it, but from such a tight angle he couldn’t put it away, Sallinger pulled off a good save.

Ther game ended with the visitors taking all 3 points. Full time 1-2.

McGlynn was very happy in his post-match press conference, saying he is “delighted by the players, and basically everyone, the fans have come along, you know, made a great noise for us.”

Interestingly, McGlynn said that it wouldn’t be long until Hibs start winning.

Reedijk speaking after his first game in charge at Easter Road said, “I think we are a thief of our own wallet.”

He went on to say “I think we create a few good chances. I think we have to create even more chances.”

And, “I think we dominated, but, we need to make more of them out of this game. If you dominate in this way, you can’t lose.”

He also said about whether the mistakes were mental or physical, “for me, at the moment technical, decision making in the corner, I think you should be clinical there.

And the ball, if you have a good touch there, in the 10 pocket, the 1st goal, you have a 2 V 1, you play out very well. You have a 2 V 1 over there. And unfortunately, these moments, they take a good shot on goal.”

Hibs kept playing backwards in the first half and seemed to struggle to get forward however in the second half they were constantly flooding forward.

So I asked, Hibs manager Reedijk, in the post-match press conference about this, and if he changed anything tactically at half time, that created this difference.

He gave a good answer, part of it was, “we wanted to play a little bit too much in my opinion, sometimes you need to clip it in behind. This variation, we found better.”

Overall, it is yet another disappointing day for Hibs fans this season as they now drop to rock bottom of the table on 7 points, 1 behind Kilmarnock after they were victorious by 3 goals to 2 at home to Motherwell this afternoon.

Reedijnk will have a very tough test against Celtic next Sunday to try and pick up his first point as Hibs boss.

Falkirk are at home to Kilmarnock next Saturday where both teams will be looking to extend their winning form.
