Borderers could help move a bid to extend the region’s railway a little further down the track.
Scottish Borders Council has launched a public survey as part of the Borders Transport Corridor Growth Prospectus, which is being developed to support a Strategic Outline Business Case for extending the Borders Railway from Tweedbank to Carlisle.
The survey forms part of engagement work aimed at understanding how people travel, the challenges they face and what improvements they would like to see along the route.
The consultation comes as feasibility work continues into the long-discussed extension of the Borders Railway south from its current terminus at Tweedbank to Carlisle.
The proposal is being examined through a £10 million business case programme funded through the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal.
The scheme would investigate whether restoring rail links through communities including Hawick, Newcastleton and Longtown could support economic growth, improve connectivity and provide a more sustainable transport option for residents and visitors.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that this year’s AGM of the Campaign for Borders Rail will be held at the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels on Saturday, October 31.
The doors will open at 11am and the programme for the day will commence at noon with the business session of CBR which lasts under one hour.
This first session gives all those attending the opportunity to hear of our work since the 2025 AGM in Hawick and also plans for the year ahead.
Non-members are welcome to attend, but only CBR members are entitled to vote on the formal motions.
Following a lunch break, during which there will be time to chat to committee members and view merchandise, the second session will commence at 2pm when three speakers will share the stage for 30 minutes each.
Refreshments will be available.
