A68 at Lauder

Drivers in the Borders have been warned they face more than two weeks of disruption next month after works on a major trunk road are carried out.
There will be overnight road closures and parking restrictions in Lauder as the A68 is resurfaced this autumn.
The work is due to start on Monday, October 12th, and run until the night of Friday, October 30th.
There will be no works on Saturday or Sunday nights.
The A68 through Lauder will be closed between 7.30pm and 6am on nights when work is taking place, with signed diversion routes in place.
The main diversion for through traffic will run between Carfraemill roundabout and Earlston, via the A68, A697 to Whiteburn, A6089 to Gordon and A6015 to Earlston.
The 7.9 mile diversion is expected to add around 12 minutes to journeys.
A separate local diversion will operate between Carfraemill roundabout, north of Lauder, and the A68 south of the town, via the A697 and B6362. But the roads contractor says that route is not suitable for HGVs.
BEAR Scotland says the work includes replacing ironwork such as manhole covers, utility access covers and drainage grates.
Access to Lauder will be maintained for residents and emergency services, while pedestrians will still be able to travel through the town.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said the overnight closures had been planned to minimise disruption when traffic levels are lower.
He added that crews would aim to complete the noisiest work by 11pm each night to reduce disruption for local residents.
Mr Deans said: “We kindly ask that parking restrictions are adhered to, helping us to complete the works safely, efficiently and with as little disruption to the local community as possible.
“We thank the local community for their patience while these essential improvements are completed.”
Overnight parking restrictions will be in place between 7.30pm and 6am, with different sections of Lauder affected as the work progresses.
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
