New secondary school is a replacement for Beeslack Community High School

Residents are being urged to make their voices heard at a public consultation on a revised plan for a new secondary school in Midlothian.
The proposed £115million replacement for Beeslack High School, which is planned for land off Seafield Moor Road, Bilston, already had planning permission granted by councillors last year.
However a redesign has now been submitted at the Pre Application Notice stage with changes including the deletion of a proposed vet clinic within the new boundary.
At a meeting of Midlothian Council’s planning committee today, council leader Kelly Parry urged people to attend a second public consultation meeting due to take place next month.
She told the meeting an initial consultation at the current Beeslack school this month had been ‘very well attended’ by local residents who took the chance to look at the proposals and give feedback.
She said: “I was very thankful to those people who attended the first consultation which was very well attended and would urge people to go to the second consultation at Bilston Primary School on November 11.”
The new school is planned for land to the west of Seafield Moor Road with planned sports pitches attached to the school to be built on land on the east of the road.
In a report to councillors today, officers said: “The proposal includes a revised design from that which was previously approved and the deletion of the veterinary clinic. The site boundary has been amended to remove the area of the veterinary clinic.”
The clinic is included in plans approved last year which remain live.
The applicants have 12 weeks to lodge a formal planning application for redesign.
