Denholm village
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
Scottish Borders Housing Association has unveiled plans for 27 affordable new homes.
The plan is to build 21 houses and six flats on land to the north east of Denholm Hall Cottage at Canonongate in Denholm.
The development proposals are understood to be for low-rise residential properties, with domestic gardens.
The site is currently vacant land surfaced in a mixture of ground grasses and mature to semi-mature trees.
A report with the application to Scottish Borders Council states: “There is potential for contamination sources to be present onsite, particularly within the southern site area, associated with the previous farm buildings and well.
“However, any contamination sources identified are considered likely to be localised and of a limited extent.”
The site encompasses currently unused open space, formally the site of the Denholm Hall Farm Steading.
Although the site was allocated for housing in the council’s previous Local Development Plans, no development has taken place despite previous applications for planning permission.
