Ten local young people who trained as 'Summer Apprentice Guides' at Rosslyn Chapel

Visitors to Rosslyn Chapel have enjoyed an added bonus this summer, with tours offered by 10 local young people who had trained as ‘Summer Apprentice Guides’.
For the second year running, visitors experienced a 20-minute guided tour of the outside of the Chapel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the summer holidays. The Summer Apprentice Guides were in costume and in character as figures from the Chapel’s history – such as Lady St Clair, her scribe, and a stone mason. Visitors were led around the outside of the Chapel, learning about its history, construction, and some of the most curious carvings.
Ten young people from Midlothian aged 11-13 were chosen from the applicants to audition and were trained for their roles. Over the past 6 weeks, they worked a total of 195 volunteer hours and were given certificates of thanks to record this contribution of their time.
Sarah Chapman, Rosslyn Chapel Trust’s Learning and Outreach Co-ordinator, said:
“We know through feedback from visitors that the Summer Apprentice Guides did a fantastic job sharing their knowledge about the Chapel and its amazing carvings. In turn, they enjoyed learning more about the site, meeting visitors from all across the world and helping them to get even more out of their visit here.”
